Week2 Technology Enhanced Language Teaching

Task for this week was to create an online quiz using Google Forms and have it done by at least 3 people. I created a quiz related to content from Chapter 1 of the textbook and it is also related to language ability (discourse completion).

In particular, I had to create the quiz with 3 questions, and each of the question should be of a different type (e.g. multiple choice, check boxes, short answer) and also should have a picture/video accompanying the question.

The number of points awarded and the answer key should be included in each question.

Reflection

First of all, I chose the topic of a quiz - in my case, it was 'English language'. This has to do with the purpose or the test objectives. I asked myself, what qualities I want to make out of this quiz? I wanted to judge the communicative competence of the testers as mentioned in chapter 1 of this book. Then, I browsed through all the different types of questions I can make, and I thought multiple-choice questions, marking the priorities of the answers, and making a short composition format would be a great way to judge the communicative competence. Finally, I spent some time creating the specific contents of this quiz. I offered different situations for each question, and for some of the questions, I provided visual aids(photos and videos) that can help the understanding of the questions.

Here are some of the things I learned. First of all, I found that Google form is such a useful tool when designing an online test. I could choose a variety of question format, and easily view the results of the test. Therefore, I thought I can try using Google form in practice. Secondly, there could be some misunderstandings and confusion when delivered to respondents. Some problems - such as giving the biggest number to the most appropriate one (rather she should have given the lowest number), or choosing more than one answer (rather she/he should have chosen only one answer) could happen. In order to narrow the gap, I need to focus more on clarifying the question and give more detailed instructions to each question.

Hi, Seri! I am Ji won from Technology Enhanced Language Teaching class!

Your blog is amazing! The layout is sophisticated and matches with the theme, and the contents are various and interesting so that I began to look forward to your next post! Also, your blog is easy to navigate through, and all posts are clear to read.

Posting some videos, as well as photos and writings, seems really a good idea :) Especially, the ricotta cheese making video is cool, I think I should follow your recipe during this quarantine time. I really enjoyed your blog, take care and please upload more awesome posts!
